Spent a couple of days mingling with InsurTech movers & shakers at this year InsurByte conference in SG this week, courtesy of the FinTech Consortium (cheers guys!).
A great event, with a lot of interesting content and some very good examples of innovation in action, across the evolving ecosystem. The pace was fast, format pleasantly mixed, insights provocative and, plenty of time was left for networking, which is always where I find more than half the value lies.
Topics ranged from an up close & personal session with Walter from ‘New Player on the Block’ Singapore Life, to how the Firemark team is working outside-in at IAG and, one of my favourites – blockchain, ICOs and their relevance to our industry. Predictably the tone was one of disruptive transformation, with a sense of urgency and opportunity in the air…
Rather than bore everyone with write-ups of all the individual sessions, I thought I’d note down a few of the sound-bites from across the two days – quotes have been kept anonymous to protect the innocent, but see if you can match the quotes to the sources – a glass of wine for the first who matches them all correctly (firstname.lastname@example.org).
The only slight negative on the event was the disappointing attendance from incumbent insurers. With so much still to do, staying connected and fuelling the imagination through interactions with emerging tech companies really should be a business priority for all.
Let’s hope we see plenty more at our upcoming TDI Asia Conference on 2nd November – having seen the way ticket sales are running, I already know we will – it’s set to be Asia’s most relevant, full ecosystem event for the second year running, and a sell-out – so if you haven’t already done so, grab a ticket now, before it’s too late!
On a final note, a quick call-out to Steve Tunstall, who, as usual, did a great job, this time as MC.
