Event Highlights
Recently the media has reported on the increasing impact technology is having on the property sector right across the spectrum, from smart homes, to a range of industrial applications.
Individuals and companies are using new technology to enable them to perform tasks remotely, such as changing the temperature and adjusting security on their homes. This combined with the additional benefit of making the environment more sustainable, is why we think it is a worthy topic for discussion.
We are pleased to be joined by some guest speakers including:
- Microsoft – who will talk about some specific smart technology customer examples
- Rick Huckstep – an expert in technology and insurance from The Digital Insurer who will be exploring with us the benefits with increasing connectivity.
- Pierluigi Fasano – Swiss Re Head of P&C Enterprise Architecture, will then discuss the evolution of the risk landscape emerging with this new technology and the role of insurance.
Further Information
Demo sessions were conducted by tech firms.
Bluesky International and Cranfield University
Key point: BlueSky International have partnered with Cranfield University to help the insurance industry get accurate subsidence ratings at address level, so they can write more business.
Bluesky is an internationally recognised leader in aerial survey and geospatial data. Cranfield University has mapped UK soils hazards and provided subsidence data to the insurance industry for almost 25 years. Cranfield and Bluesky will be jointly demonstrating how their data is helping the insurance industry understand and quantify their risks at an unprecedented degree of accuracy, enabling insurers to maximise opportunities and profits, whilst minimising risk exposure. They will show delegates how to offer cheaper premiums on low risk properties in high risk regions in order to increase the number of policies on their book without unnecessary exposure to geohazards.
360Globalnet
Key point: Digital products and services radically transform the insurance claims process, via customer self-service on mobile devices, or a video-enabled ‘on demand’ crowd, or live-streamed incidents. The results are fast, accurate decision-making, at a lower cost.
Data management and analytics capabilities enable insurers can visualise any data, regardless of source and type, providing real-time dashboards, to improve and enhance business decisions and reduce claims fraud. They will demonstrate how insurers achieve compelling benefits digitalising their claims processes. A video explaining how one of their products work is here www.youtube.com/embed/hM3nDTzbNwg
Extreme Biometrics
Key point: The company uses high end sensors to measure activity around the brainstem that enables the quantification of human performance. Shows property insurers just how sophisticated sensors are now coming onto the market that are providing new data that may be used one day for a much more accurate property risk assessment.
Extreme use advanced technology to quantify human performance. They work with the world’s most highly regarded autonomic neurophysiologists who, in thirty years of research, have created a mechanism for measuring the impact our environment has upon us all. They have miniaturised that machine so it can be taken out of the laboratory and used in our daily lives to quantify, objectively, how our psychology and physiology respond to the different events that affect us all. They will have a sensor attached to someone demonstrating this but not delegates.
They measure directly from the brainstem to assess psychological load, readiness, arousal, and other metrics. They believe the applications for this technology are numerous and will become the de factor method for quantifying psychological load in any setting. Industries that currently use technology like this may include airline pilots, construction workers in dangerous sites, racing drivers, etc.
