The Digital Insurer was invited to participate in the 2019 Machine Intelligence Summit, held in Berlin, Germany on 5th July, and organised by omni:us for the 3rd year running.
The overall vibe was high-energy, with a clear passion & enthusiasm amongst attendees to find ways of changing insurance for good – through the use of new technologies. Off course, as you’d expect from a Machine Intelligence Summit, there was a healthy leaning towards machine learning and AI throughout the day!
The Allianz Forum was the perfect venue for an agenda-packed, interactive day, with plenty of audience participation and break-out sessions. The mix of keynotes and panel sessions covered topics ranging from: the potential value of AI to insurers; how it can effectively be applied across the enterprise; how it can drive improvements in specific functional areas such as Claims and Product Development; as well as broader themes such as why and how other technologies can best be applied.
TDI moderated the first-morning panel session on “Customer Value Add” and the role that technology can play in helping improve product and service propositions for customers. Remembering that, ultimately, acquiring and retaining happy customers is what business is all about, we started the discussion by reflecting on the low levels of trust and satisfaction which many customers feel towards the existing insurance market, before exploring the key enabling role that technology can play in helping address these and other opportunities across the sector.
A strong, experienced, and highly-engaging panel brought a healthy mix of stories and views to the debate: Christian van Leeuwen, CTO of FRISS (risk assessment & fraud detection software); Monika Schulze, Global Head of Customer Experience and Digital Office, Zurich (insurer); Joachim von Bonin, MD & CFO of Simplesurance (simplified insurance platform) and; Linda Stannieder, CEO of BrandLab (brand innovation).
For those not yet familiar with omni:us, the Company was founded in 2015 in Berlin, as an artificial intelligence SaaS provider specializing in the insurance industry. They use AI to help insurance companies focus less on the process and more on improved understanding and servicing of customers, through new data-driven new products and services. Their products are currently available in Europe and the US.
The evening presented an opportunity for speakers and panellists to mingle over dinner with the omni:us team. They’re a cool, engaging and enthusiastic bunch – from the top-down – and definitely a team to watch. Grab a ticket for the 4th Machine Intelligence Summit 2020 when you can.
