About this event
The Asia Motor Insurance Summit was held 18th -19th September in Beijing with several leading property insurers and enterprise software providers for auto insurers leading the presentations at the event.
TDI’s Simon Phipps gave the opening address of the second day, which focused on global trends that will spur demand for insurance, whilst also considering the major disruptions that property insurers will have to grapple with in the years ahead.
Another notable speaker from day one was Chong Song from Huatai P&C who presented several examples of how insurers are embracing O2O services with startups, before adding that data & analytics will play a crucial role in optimizing the conversion rate for customers acquired from offline sources and O2O partners.
TDI’s Simon Phipps also joined a panel discussion that considered how technology, data, and services will underpin the digitalization and interconnection of vehicle insurance. Other panelists included:
- Hao Luo, Deputy Secretary General, UXACN
- Gang Wang, – CEO – Panda Insurance
- Xuejin Zheng – Ping An
- Keqi Li – iDriver Media
- Jianhong Yin, E-Car
- Howard Tan – Hi-Available Technologies
During the discussion, the panel acknowledged the impending onslaught of autonomous vehicles whilst noting the role that telematics and driver assistants will have in the medium term. Simon added some personal examples of the frustrations that many policyholders have when filing a claim with their insurers, as a way of explaining just how far the insurance industry still has to go.
A final keynote from Zhong Cheng, VP of Answern Insurance (one of China’s five internet insurers) focused on the need for insurers to become specialists in specific areas that internet platforms will struggle to master; commercial insurance, critical illness insurance, NatCat coverage being primary examples and other niche lines such as marine and construction insurance also becoming more relevant.
Ultimately, this event was a good example of cross-border knowledge exchange and networking with a focus on the vulnerable but sizable auto insurance sector. If you are interested in attending TDI LIVEFEST, the worlds first fully online global insurance conference, you can register for free here.
