Imburse – Universal Payments Connector

In View Summary

Imburse, a ‘universal payments connector’, is a Swiss startup operating globally, which operates a Payment as a Service platform that makes it simpler for companies to collect or pay out money. Through its API platform, Imburse helps insurers offer customers all payment collection and payout technologies in any currency and market, helping create new products and better customer journeys.

The integration of Imburse’s technology via an API gives carriers the flexibility to test, chose or alter the payment methods best suited for the business, product or journey. A single reconciliation and reporting source at group or entity level makes full, real-time transparency possible.

Positioning itself as a universal payments connector, Imburse aims to facilitate any and all settlements between players. It has therefore enlarged its offer to integrate claim settlement in goods through partnerships with domestic appliance merchants.

Active in Switzerland, Germany and the UK, the startup is working to broaden its reach so as to include Portugal, Spain, Benelux, USA and Canada by year-end. In June 2019 Imburse received a Finance IT Innovation Award for the ecosystem category from the Business Engineering Institute St. Gallen AG.

  • Innovative products and services
  • Increased customer engagement and retention

The Digital Insurer's View

Initially conceived as an app to sell travel insurance at the airport, the founders realised how difficult and critical it was to transact payments, eventually turning around the core offer and business model to launch Imburse.
