Car2Go is a German car rental company which is a subsidiary of Daimler AG providing carsharing services in urban areas in Europe, North America, and China. Car2Go is notable for its proactivity in the field of car insurance. In Europe, Car2Go has partnered with Allianz Worldwide Partners for third party liability cover. The cover is provided to all car2go customers renting a car in Germany, Italy, Austria, Spain, and the Netherlands – equivalent to around 7,400 vehicles.
Car2Go provides insurance that covers members who use their cars for the legal state minimum liability (what protects the other driver in an accident you cause) up to $300K.
It charges a $1 Driver Protection fee for each ride in order to keep the deductible low for drivers, so he/she should not have to pay any more than $250 during an accident and could technically have to pay “between $0 and $1,000” if found at fault.
Ultimately, Car2Go is a good example of a traditional transport company, in this case, Daimler AG, launching new offerings that leverage the multi-national presence of its parent company.
