China's Tech giants part three: Tencent
Editorial by Hugh Terry
In the final edition of this three-part series on China’s tech giants we consider the digital insurance activities currently underway at Tencent with an in-depth article and slide deck alongside further video analysis from Swiss Re’s Yannick Even and the TDI team. Although relatively unknown in the western world, Tencent is China’s most influential internet company with its core services spanning gaming, social networking and mobile payments. However, Tencent is perhaps best known as the owner of WeChat, China’s ubiquitous messaging app with a billion active users. In addition to investments in autonomous vehicles and preventative healthcare, this month we consider the distribution potential of WeChat, and the early steps of WeSure, Tencent’s new insurance broker that is tailoring insurance policies to user segments on WeChat.
