On-Demand Learning & Development in Digital Insurance has Arrived – The Certificate in Digital insurance
Welcome to the future of learning & development in digital insurance.
In 2020, back on the heels of the successful launch of TDI’s virtual mini-MBA programme in digital insurance, we also launched an On-Demand Certificate in Digital Insurance (CDI for short).
In this article we will share details of the CDI programme including the design thinking and rationale.
What is the On-Demand CDI programme?
CDI provides always-on access to the core curriculum of the TDI Academy – 56 hours of pre-recorded lessons from industry experts on a broad range of topics about digital insurance and how technology can be used to transform the insurance industry.
You earn your Certificate by completing half of the lessons – that is 28 lessons in total. If you put in approximately 8-10 hours a month on CDI you can complete it within 4 months. But you have access to all 56 hours for 12 months – so there is nothing stopping you taking all of the lessons at the pace that works for you – super fast or browsing in and out!
What are the benefits of being On-Demand?
There are four major benefits of an On-Demand programme:
- Ease of access – available whenever and wherever you need it
- Self-paced – you have 12 months access allowing plenty of time to complete and even rewatch!
- Global expertise – the format allows us to bring in expertise and different perspectives and experiences from around the world
- Remains relevant – we can and do maintain and upgrade our lessons as new technologies and use cases emerge
Why should I choose CDI – Combining breadth, choice and the option for depth
CDI is all about giving you the biggest and broadest picture on digital insurance so you can see where your role fits in the ever-changing landscape. It will also enable you to apply your learnings strategically as well as functionally into your workplace.
The in-built allowance for choice, where you decide which are the most valuable 28 lessons for you to get your certificate allows customisation without compulsion – if you want to complete all 56 lessons you can do so – and we hope you do!
What can I expect from a CDI lesson?
Each lesson is designed by a team that includes our Curriculum & Exam Director, the Industry Expert(s) who create and deliver the lesson and the TDI Academy production team.
The aim is to create a structured lesson approximately 60 minutes long that achieves clearly stated learning goals.
The team start with the learning goals, carry out research and create a storyboard that everyone gets excited about. Then the Industry Expert pulls together the deck which is refined and improved and then the video recording is done. The videos are interactive and not a lecturer reading from slides! They are also broken into mini videos typically 5 or 6 per lesson, allowing you to consume them easily in small chunks during your working day.
Each lesson is structured similarly with an initial overview, lesson topics that align to the learning goals and a final summary section. The final summary section also includes links to additional reading references to allow you to go deeper into the subject, should you wish to.

Globally relevant and accessible
Technology doesn’t respect national borders. We aim to bring you the best insights from around the world so you can make an informed decision on relevancy for your circumstances.
We achieve this at TDI Academy by using a diverse range of Industry Experts from around the world who present use cases and case studies from every region. Our lessons are in English first as the common language of business, but we know that our programme participants also like materials in their primary language and we are now upgrading so that our videos will be captioned in 10 languages with translated decks soon to be available in 5 – and with more to come.
Who can benefit from the CDI programme?
CDI is for those that want to be part of the future of digital insurance. It is about attitude not experience. As a business related programme it is not heavy on academics and it is focused on providing you with the knowledge and insights to accelerate your learning in digital insurance. So the programme works for senior leaders, junior managers and recent entrants. As a guide, we would recommend 2 years experience in insurance as we don’t focus on explaining the concepts of insurance.CDI_Participant feedback
