Japanese insurer Tokio Marine has partnered with mobile operator NTT DoCoMo to offer short term, affordable and easy-to-buy insurance products. This innovation allows consumers to buy one-time insurance policies covering, for example, travel, golf, sports, skiing and driving via their mobile phones.
Mobile devices are enabling new and innovative business models, and quite a few insurers have created mobile applications to sell “on the go” insurance products. Continuing in the same vein, Tokio Marine has introduced short-term insurance policies that can be purchased for short periods of time, such as a day or a few weeks. These policies are designed to protect customers when they engage in infrequent activities.
To buy and use this product, all you need is your mobile phone as the whole product is managed and sold using mobile app. The mobile app uses Auto GPS Function to determine customers’ locations and proactively prompts them with relevant one-time insurance products, such as travel insurance when customers are at an airport or accident insurance when they are at a ski resort. Customers can also fill a policy application form and make premium payment through the same mobile app.
